Chloe always dreamed of visiting the ocean, and now the ocean is the only place she has left to go. Trapped in the form of a mermaid and on the run from the Sylphaen, her best chance for safety lies in traveling with Zeke to his underwater home and staying under his protection there.
Leaving isn’t easy, however. Her best friend doesn’t know where she’s gone, and her family doesn’t either. She’s been forced to abandon Noah, the boy she’s liked for years and who she’s just discovered likes her too. She only hopes Zeke’s people will help her so she can return soon.
But when conspiracies follow her and people start to die, safety becomes harder to find than ever. The Sylphaen are coming. They’re more powerful than she could have imagined.
And they’re not through with Chloe yet.

About Skye
Skye Malone is a fantasy and paranormal romance author, which means she spends most of her time not-quite-convinced that the things she imagines couldn't actually exist.
Born and raised in central Illinois, she hopes someday to travel the world – though in the meantime she’ll take any story that whisks her off to a place where the fantastic lives inside the everyday. She loves strong and passionate characters, complex villains, and satisfying endings that stay with you long after the book is done. An inveterate writer, she can’t go a day without getting her hands on a keyboard, and can usually be found typing away while she listens to all the adventures unfolding in her head.
Skye also writes YA urban fantasy as Megan Joel Peterson and is the author of The Children and the Blood trilogy.
Review:
3.5-4/5

3.5-4/5

Unfortunately, this sequel didn't reach all my expectation and didn't bring me back all the good stuff, mystery and action that I loved from the first book.
The rhythm of the first half was
a bit slow to my liking. I was craving some action, stolen kisses or missed
moments. Even some explanation about Chloe strange abilities with the water but
nothing that worth a comment. I felt that Chloe was really distant in this
book, like a second character. She doesn’t react much and my connection toward
her from the first book vanished.
I strongly sensed the tension
between Chloe, Zeke and Noah at some point in this tome, but I feel that she'll
have to make a real difficult choice between her friendship with Zeke and her
impossible love with Noah.
Zeke is also a bit blank to me
in the first part of this book. His character is much needed in this second
book, but I thought I would have read more about his true feelings toward Chloe
and also his implication to demystify Chloe's true nature.
We don't see Noah in the first
half of this book.
When Noah is finally back in the
picture, he brought exciting tension, action and his presence (plus the
troublemaker from his family) adds a lot to the story.
I like the fact that the
chapters are from a different character POV, it gives some context and wakes up
some animosity when we read about Zeke or Noah mood.
The biggest surprise hit me at
the end of Descend, I didn't saw this one coming and it's hard to surprise me
these days. Skye Malone piqued up my curiosity with these controversy elements
and that's why I want to read the next book, even if some points altered my POV
at the beginning.
Overall, I'm happy to have read
Descend even if it didn't match my expectation. The second half was awesome and
I wish it would have been like this from the start. I truly sense that there's
something magical and considerable that will bloom in the third book. Descend
brought me to this point and I'm eager to learn what would happen to Chloe,
Zeke and Noah.
