Krysta is used to getting the drop on vampires. Her "special abilities" aren't much, but the plan is simple--she plays helpless pretty young thing to lure them in. Then her shoto swords come out and it's bye-bye, bloodsucker. Until one night she finds herself with an unexpected ally. He's a vampire, all right, but different. Mysterious. Handsome. And more interested in saving her skin than draining it.
Etienne has been an Immortal Guardian for two hundred years--long enough to know that Krysta is special. He can't stop thinking about her long legs, even more than her short swords. Then he discovers the vamps she's exterminating have friends in high places, and the Guardians are in danger too. He'll have to accept Krysta's help to save them. The stakes for a mortal are high. But the cost to his heart might be higher. . .
Honestly the best Immortal Guardians book in this series so far! I enjoyed every book in a different way and for different reason, but Darkness Rises has everything I look and crave for in a Paranormal Romance story!
Usually, I prefer the first book in a series, it's always darker and I discover the whole new universe the author has to offer. One thing I really like from this series is the imagination and the creativity the author; Dianne Duvall, with an all new and reinvented vampire story! But with Darkness Rises, I was served! At first, I didn't think I would like it that much; I couldn't put the book down since I was so into Krysta and Etienne story!
It was a great and original combination of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Aka Krysta, and one of the original former of the Immortal Guardians Etienne. Their universes collide one night when Etienne is patrolling the campus. Thinking Krysta was in danger and under the attack of a group of vampires, Etienne came to the rescue but was turned down (or turn on!) by Krysta abilities. All right, girl power!!!
This series gave me mostly kick-ass, enterprising, resourceful and courageous heroine, Sara and Amy (great news about this one!) are ones of my favorite, but Krysta took the first place right away!
Plus, we learn a bit more about Zach, this dark, mysterious, wounded and unpredictable immortal Aka angel who might have an eye on the sweet Juliette... Can't wait to read their story! (Well I hope there will be one!!!)
Overall, in Darkness Rises, the reader will continue his quest with the Immortals Guardians against the vampires but also against a new human threat that might take everyone down but mostly everyone by surprise!
If you had the chance to read this successful series, Darkness Rises is the ultimate book (so far) and you have to read it, it's a must! If you are new to this series, you crave Paranormal Romance and want to read something different, where the vampires are the bad guys, run to your library to buy or order this series right away!
Now, A little bit more about Dianne!
Ten things to know about Dianne Duvall, the talented author of the Immortals Guardians series!
Hi Dianne, it's always a pleasure and an honor to have you here on my blog!
Hi, Proserpine! Thanks so much for letting me visit again and for helping me celebrate the release of DARKNESS RISES, which I was thrilled to discover has hit the USA Today Bestseller List! Woohoo!
1) Your favorite song/band at the moment.
Disturbed’s “Down With the Sickness” is probably the song I play most often because (1) I really like it and (2) it fits in so well with my series. Both my Immortal Guardians and the vampires they hunt are infected with a virus that lends them many of the qualities associated with vampirism. Which is also why I made “Down With the Sickness” the ringtone of Seth, the eldest and most powerful immortal, who is their self-proclaimed leader.
2) Your favorite book turned into movie.
World War Z. I have always loved zombie movies — whether they’re big budget, low budget, or no budget — and this one was awesome! I foresee myself watching it over and over again when time allows and hope Brad Pitt will make another one! Love this movie too! One of the best Zombies movie with the Walking Dead series!
3) Your favorite Fairy Tale.
Hmm. Perhaps Little Red Riding Hood. I’ve read and seen so many variations of it over the years and am always interested in seeing what new twist will be added next. And, as a lover of paranormal romance, I admit I have a fondness for stories that contain dark predators. J
4) One of your favorite authors.
Stephen King. He’s a phenomenal author and has such a unique way with words. Every time I read one of his novels, I learn something new about writing and find myself thinking, “I’ve never seen anyone else describe that in quite that way.” He also wrote a fabulous book I recommend for all writers entitled ON WRITING, which he also narrated in audio format. So both his fiction and nonfiction work appeals to me.
5) Favorite thing to cook/eat.
Pasta. It’s both easy and delicious. Aka!
6) Favorite treats.
My favorite treat (and biggest guilty pleasure) is German chocolate pie. When I edit, however, I prefer crunchier snacks like chips, and pretzels.
7) Favorite place to write or find inspiration.
Although I can write just about anywhere, I prefer the comfort of home when I write. It’s a more controlled environment. Fewer distractions. Fewer interruptions to take me out of the world I’m creating. The more I’m yanked out of that world, the harder it is to find my way back into it. But I do writer elsewhere . . . and not always on a computer. If you happen to see me standing in line at the post office, staring blankly into space, chances are good that I’m mentally writing the next scene in my WIP.
As for inspiration, I find that everywhere. The idea to have humans in my series who have been infected with the vampiric virus go insane from the progressive brain damage it causes arose from a biography of King George III, whose madness many now believe was a result of porphyria. At the other end of the spectrum, the teasing banter immortals engage in throughout the series was inspired by the laughter and teasing that is so much a part of my own life. J
8) Favorite place to read.
Once more, I’ll say in the comfort of my home. But I can really read anywhere. Indoors. Outdoors. Surrounded by people. Alone. I love books and, unlike when I’m writing and need more quiet to concentrate, I find it easy to tune out everything around me when I lose myself in the pages of a good recreational read. More and more often, of late, I’ve found myself swiftly devouring a few pages whenever I spend time on the exercise bike. It makes the time past so much more quickly.
9) Favorite holiday.
I love them all. J
10) Favorite supernatural being.
Immortal Guardians. I spend so much time with them they’re practically like family. J Vampires are a close second, though. And, in my series, readers will encounter a broad spectrum of vampires. There are a rare few like Cliff, who are newly turned and struggling to stave off the insanity. And there are the far more common psychotic vampires like Dennis, who long ago stopped fighting the madness and now embrace it, torturing the humans they prey upon and even attacking fellow vampires in bursts of fury.
Thanks for your time Dianne!
Thank you, Proserpine! It’s always a pleasure to visit!
