I’m super excited to welcome K.C Neal, the author of Pyxis (The Discovery 1). Her book will be release in e-book on November 4th and in Paperback on December 2nd. Just check this interview with this awesome author and for more information about her upcoming book just look at the end of the interview!
So there it is!
K.C Neal, when did you find out that you wanted to be a writer?
K.C Neal:
I've wanted to write for as long as I can remember. I started writing stories in a spiral notebook when I was 9 or 10. English was always my favourite class. In high school I wrote a lot of poetry. I didn't write much through college or for several years afterward, but three years ago I started writing novels.
Where did you find the inspiration for Pyxis, The Discovery #1?
K.C Neal:
The setting for the book, the town of Tapestry, was inspired by a small mountain town in Idaho where I've spent many amazing summer days. As for the story itself, I'm not sure where it came from! While I was reading one of Amanda Hocking's books--I think it was My Blood Approves--back in January, the opening scene of Pyxis came to me.Did you have to do some research for your book? Like on legends, myths or fairy fables?
K.C Neal:
The research I did was mostly for the terminology I needed. That's how I came across the word "pyxis," which is a Greek word for box, as well as phrases like "pyramidal union" and "in syndesmo." You'll have to read the book to find out what those mean in the story. ;)
Why did you choose to write YA Fantasy?
Writing YA is exciting because the characters in YA novels often experience important things for the first time, like love and independence. Everything is new to someone who is just beginning to leave childhood behind. I've always loved fantasy--the Lord of the Rings trilogy is one of my all-time favourites--it's amazing to get lost in a world so rich in detail.
If you weren’t an author, what kind of career you would have or would love to have?
K.C. Neal:
I'd like to have a farm. I love the idea of a small farm where I could grow or raise most of what I eat. I love digging in the dirt!
If you were a villain from Disney, which one it would be and why?
K. C. Neal:
Alice in Wonderland was my favourite animated Disney movie growing up, so I have to pick the Queen of Hearts. She's just so ridiculous, with her demands that the white roses be painted red. Off with their heads!! Lol!
If there were a fire in a book store and you could save only one book, which one it would be and why?
K.C Neal:
I'd probably want to save something valuable, like a first edition of a classic.
What is your favourite autumn activity?
This year, it's canning. I love preserving the bounty of the summer. This winter when snow blankets the ground and all the trees are bare, I'll pop open a jar of sauce tomatoes that I grew in my veggie garden, and bring back a little taste of summer.
What is on your TBR pile or what is your next to-be read book?
K.C Neal:
My TBR pile is enormous! I think my next read will be Divergent by Veronica Roth. I've heard so many great things about this book, can't wait to read it.
Quickies:
Cat or Dog? Dog, for sure! I grew up with dogs, and I have a cute maltipoo named Oscar. Plus, I'm allergic to cats.
Highlands or South America? Hmmm... South America.
Coffee or Tea? Tea, especially green.
Hotel or Camping? Camping.
Now a little bit more about the book and the author!

About the author:
Most of K.C. Neal's days are filled with some combination of writing, reading, gardening, working, and watching stuff on Netflix with her husband and their maltipoo, Oscar. She has an irrational fixation with L.A., and during occasional trips there she pretends her life is more glamorous than it really is ("Entourage" is her guilty pleasure). She likes to surf and hang out on sandy beaches, where drinks are served adorned with tiny umbrellas.

ReplyDeleteAwesome interview of a very special Author. LOTR-for sure. I'm on page 1214 and I've been reading this for a few months, lol.
ReplyDeleteAn epic, it is.
I love how you put some nuggets/easter eggs in the book for the reader to figure out/learn. "Pyxis", "in syndesmo".
It is our "job" to entertain and captivate but also to teach if we can.
Great job and of course you know I wish you nothin but the best K.C!
Thank you, Tym! I think it's really challenging to not explain too much, yet not be too vague. Something that will take me many novels to figure out, I'm sure...!
